Forum theatre in schools and communities
“Dare to be happy” – says Augusto Boal, the creator of Forum theatre. We, “House of Arts and Education” believe that too.
In 2024-2025 we actively implemented a number of meaningful educational activities based on Forum theatre method – from Vilnius to Mažeikiai, from schools to museums, from educators to the youngest children.
Forum theatre has become our tool for creating a safer, more empathetic, and more active society. We participated in Millennium Schools program, funded by the European Union, and conducted interactive training and activities in:
- Šv. Kristoforo, Pilaitės, Žaros, Liepkalnio schools, Sausio 13 and Sofijos Kovalevskajos progymnasiums in Vilnius;
- Mažeikiai, Gabijos gymnasium;
- Kaunas, Erudito Lyceum (with MO museum);
- Societies of Kaišiadorys, Kėdainiai and Druskininkai.
Through Forum theatre, students and teachers:
- More confidently expressed their feelings and thoughts;
- Learned to resolve conflicts constructively;
- Gained self-confidence, strengthened empathy and belonging to community;
- Sought solutions in real situations.
Boal’s games, Forum theatre, Clarification of Values, Image theatre and Rainbow of Desire are not only methods, but also a path to a deeper understanding of oneself and others.
What do participants say?
After the sessions, students shared that:
- The class atmosphere improved, and tension decreased;
- It became easier to talk about discrimination, bullying, and tolerance;
- Creativity and self-confidence increased.
Teachers emphasized that Forum theatre not only helps to develop social skills, but also responds to the themes of citizenship, emotional health, and Human rights emphasized in the curriculum.
Further – even broader
Activities took place not only in schools. We held workshops for parents, educators, and specialists at the MO Museum, the Kėdainiai district Women’s Crisis Centre, and the Audiosensory Library. We talked about dyslexia, inclusive education, emotional literacy – everything that is important for human dignity and relationships.
Our goal – open, empathetic and creative society
We are happy to contribute to the education of the younger generation not only through culture and education, but also through strengthening of Human rights, awareness and personal growth.

“We believe in peace, but not indifference” – says Augusto Boal. Dare to be happy and not indifferent. We wish this for ourselves and others.
